Set above a quiet river valley, Villa Mako blends the luxury and grandeur of Dutch colonial architecture with the picturesque surroundings of a small Canggu village. This three-bedroom retreat is stately in design, yet warmly and richly decorated with eclectic interiors reflecting the passions and travels of the owners. Balinese and Javanese antiques and a bold use of colour create a unique and comfortable sanctuary for guests. This single-storey villa, characterised by louvred shutters, recycled teak doors and floors, and spectacularly high wooden ceilings, benefits from cooling breezes and a flooding of natural light courtesy of its elevated position.> View more information
Jl. Raya Tumbakbayuh, Banjar Tiying Tutul, Desa Tumbak Bayuh
Tiying Tutul, the village or ‘banjar’ around Villa Mako, remains primarily agricultural. At the bottom of the garden is a rustic brick wall with a gateway opening onto the riverbank. Here, guests will find a simple and private riverside balé, perfect for meditation. This is also the site of a holy spring, where villagers make offerings to the gods. 80 metres further along the river is the village temple. Guests will be welcomed at temple festivals; some may even be lucky enough to witness a barong dance or other Hindu ceremony. The villa staff will be happy to help with ceremonial clothing and advice on etiquette.
Comfort and relaxation are the focus of Villa Mako’s plush interiors, and furnishings feature oversized sofas, daybeds, poolside loungers and plenty of cushions, so guests will always find a private place for peace and quiet. Featuring a range of indoor and outdoor living and entertainment spaces, including three dining areas, open-plan kitchen, fully equipped media room and sundrenched terraces, Villa Mako is ideal for families or groups of friends.
Beyond the main house, a beautifully landscaped tropical garden, complete with its own serene temple, rolls down to a generously sized swimming pool (with shallow feature suitable for children) and a large outdoor dining pavilion. The garden vista flows on to the tropical jungle canopy outside the villa walls and beyond to the surrounding rice terraces creating a picture-perfect backdrop to the serenity of Villa Mako.
Set well away from Bali’s tourist areas in the tiny village of Tiying Tutul, peaceful Villa Mako sits amid the rhythms of agricultural life and gracefully honours Balinese culture. A warm and dedicated team of staff including villa manager, chef, housekeepers, gardener, pool attendant and security will attentively and discretely cater to guests’ every whim to ensure your perfect Bali holiday.
