FOODS YOU SHOULDN’T MISS OUT ON WHEN GOING TO BALI

BALI had become one of the most popular locations  not only  for it’s beautiful landscapes  and beaches, majestic mountains and citizens’ kindness. It’s also for the tasty food that uses a variety of spices, vegetables, meat and fish and that is inspired by the rest of indonesia, china and india. So here are some of our food suggestions that you should definitely try on your trip :

AYAM BETUTU

Betutu is a meal made with steamed chicken or duck,  it is rich with mixed spices. Heavily seasoned and is very popular in Bali and Lombok. the spices in Betutu are a mix of shallots, garlic, turmeric, ginger, galangal, bancoule, red chillies,peanuts and shrimp paste, all is ground with a pestle , The mixture is then stir-fried and applied to poultry. There isn’t one specific way to cook betutu, because it depends on the regions of Bali.

Sate Lilit

Sate lilit is a variant of satay in  balinese cuisine, it is called « lilit » because it means «  to wrap », which corresponds to the method of wrapping the meat around sticks of bambou, sugar cane or lemon grass, then grilled over charcoal,  the meat can be pork, fish, chicken, beef or turtles meat, and it  is then mixed with grated coconut, thick coconut milk, pepper, shallots and lemon juice

Babi Guling

Babi guling is one of Bali’s most famous dishes, it is often served with lawar rice and steamed. The pig is stuffed with a spice mix that  includes turmeric, coriander seeds, lemongrass, black pepper and garlic, and it is traditionally roasted. It is found in small restaurants where locals go for a quick lunch or dinner.

Lawar

Like most balinese cuisine, this dish is enriched in spices and herbs and consists of meat and vegetables. It is found a lot in small  restaurants in Bali like Babi Gulling. Despite its rich mixture of vegetables, lawar is not a vegetarian dish as it is most often mixed with minced meat or even blood.

Rojak Bulung

Rujak Bulung is made of seaweed and is one of the favorite dishes of Balinese people. It is known for being effective against nausea, vomiting and lots of types of sicknesses. Rujak Bulung is sold everywhere and it isn’t a hassle to find it so it’s easy to have it wherever whenever.

Tum Ayam

Tum Ayam has a very interesting presentation and as you may have guessed, it is made with chicken mixed with spices and coconut milk, banana leaves are also present in this dish as the chicken is wrapped in it and it is then steamed or even grilled.

Nasi Tepeng

Spicy food lovers can’t miss out on this one ! this dish is made mainly of rice accompanied with spices that give it it’s slight spicy taste. Nasi tepeng is usually served with vegetables like eggplant, beans and even shredded coconut !

Laklak 

This one  is made from rice flour. Balinese people love to eat this with a  cup of coffee to complement the flavor. It has a  green or white color and is  covered with grated coconut and brown sugar sauce. But sometimes brown sugar is replaced with milk and some also come with black rice.

Bubur Injin

Bubur Injin is a really famous easy to prepare  Balinese dessert that has a sticky texture as it’s made with black sticky rice, palm sugar and coconut juice.
